Starting or Restarting a Competitive Intelligence Operation
|
|
| Setting
up and Improving a Competitive Intelligence Operation |
| Getting
a significant return from investment in CI |
| Whether
you are setting up a new CI operation from scratch, or wanting to
raise the performance of your existing operation, EMP has the
experience and expertise to help you.
Matching CI activities to the needs
of the business requires judgement. Conflicting interests, differing
opinions on the importance of CI, as well as ignorance about
competitive intelligence itself calls for the objectives thinking
and impartial viewpoint which EMP can bring. Other benefits include identifying
and implementing which CI processes you need to invest in or be
trained in.

| Stuck
in 2nd Gear? |
| CI
operation often get stuck in 2nd gear after a first successful
launch. We can help you get into higher gears, improve the
operation's performance and restore its reputation. |
| Information
Overload |
| The
internet has made life easier for CI managers but the downside is
information overload. We can help you avoid information overload and
help you deal efficiently and effectively with large volumes of raw
information. |
| Filling
a Gap |
| To help
get a CI operation off the ground, or out of 2nd gear, or even to
fill a short term shortage of personnel, you can hire in-house CI
expertise for periods of 1 week to six months. You can
"rent" senior or junior level expertise. |

|
|
| Things
to watch out for |
| When
setting up a CI operation you may be tempted to produce reports
similar in content and style to course work for academic
qualifications, complete with theoretical models. Unless an
intelligence customer expresses a preference for particular academic
theory, this should be avoided at all costs. |
|
|
| Fit
for Purpose |
|
CI must fit a business purpose and not just inform.
Otherwise it will become wallpaper. The intelligence
"product" you produce should be a product designed,
researched and tested in the same rigorous way as any
other product or service a business may sell. The only
difference between them is that a CI product is only
intended for an internal market. |
